In a Galaxy Not So Far Away…
Hello there! I’m Kevin Bond, and it’s a pleasure to welcome you to my corner of the internet. Before we embark on this journey together, allow me to share a bit about who I am and what you can expect to find here.
The Name’s Bond, Kevin Bond
First things first, let’s address the elephant in the room—the name. Yes, you guessed it, Bond is indeed my last name, and no, there’s no secret agent intrigue hiding behind it (although the James Bond jokes are always good for a chuckle). I hail from the heart of the United States, Ohio, where I spent my formative years.
From Microscopes to Fairways: My Unconventional Journey
As a kid, I was introduced to golf by my parents and my grandfather, and I fell in love with the game. Golf, with its unique blend of challenge and precision, has always held a special place in my heart. Despite my professional career as a research scientist, golf remains a constant passion.
You might be wondering why a scientist would find golf so captivating. To me, they share a common thread—precision. Just as science demands meticulous attention to detail, so does golf. There’s a beauty in the pursuit of excellence, whether it’s in the lab or on the fairway.
Wanderlust and South Korean Adventures
While I’m no stranger to the laboratory, I’m equally at home exploring the world. One of my most cherished travel experiences took me to South Korea. The warm hospitality of its people, the seamless public transportation system, and the delectable cuisine left an indelible mark on my heart (and stomach).
May the Force Be with You
Now, let’s talk about a different kind of journey—the one through the galaxy of Star Wars. I’m an unabashed Star Wars fanatic. I’ve devoured countless Star Wars books, re-watched all the movies and TV series on Disney+, and daydreamed about wielding a lightsaber. The Force as introduced and taught by Star Wars has been a guiding presence in my life, shaping my values and perspective.
Family and Golf: The Grandpa Connection
When it comes to golf, my role model has always been my grandfather. He’s the embodiment of consistency, never missing a fairway. While he might not hit the ball as far as he used to, his precision remains unmatched. He taught me that in golf, as in life, consistency and patience are key.
Aside from my grandfather, my parents have been instrumental in shaping my journey. They supported my pursuits, whether it was hitting golf balls or exploring the mysteries of the universe in a laboratory. Their unwavering encouragement allowed me to follow my passions.
Goals: Breaking 80 and Beyond
In the world of golf, I have a personal goal—to break 80. It’s a challenge I’ve taken upon myself, and part of this journey will be documenting my progress right here on this blog. Ultimately, I aspire to have a handicap low enough to attempt to qualify for the US Open. It’s a long-term goal that keeps me motivated and excited.
Living like a Jedi
Lastly, if you’re wondering about my philosophy on life, it’s closely aligned with the Jedi way from Star Wars. No, I’m not advocating for emotional detachment, but rather a profound appreciation for the interconnectedness of all things. Life is a precious gift, and it’s essential to live in the present, embracing every moment.
So, there you have it—Kevin Bond, a scientist with a love for golf, an affinity for Star Wars, and a passion for life. I invite you to join me on this adventure as we explore the worlds of golf, science, and the Force together. Feel free to reach out, share your thoughts, and let’s embark on this journey of discovery and growth together.
May the fairways be ever in your favor, and may the Force guide you on your path
